Fred Gates is the principal of Fred Gates Design, a graphic design studio in New York City focusing on creative solutions for corporate, non-profit, and arts institutions; including web development, social media, print, exhibit and display design. Born in Buffalo, New York, he attended The Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art (full scholarship). Before creating Fred Gates Design in 1991, he worked as an Associate Art Director for Business Week magazine and as a Senior Designer for Kellogg Communications. Fred Gates Design has developed innovative design strategies for a variety of clients including Sony America, The Jubilee Center Hoboken, The International Center of Photography, The YMCA of USA, American Express, This Week In New York, Michael Kaminer Public Relations, Grove/Atlantic Press, and The National Design Museum of the Smithsonian Institute/Cooper Hewitt Museum.
